"Just Mercy" Movie Reflection: Event

After seeing the movie “Just Mercy”, I feel that the movie conveys the themes of the book really well.  I was somewhat surprised by this, as it is often difficult to capture everything that a book offers in a 2 hour movie.  I feel like mercy was the more powerful theme in this movie, however, rather than justice, because there are many instances in both the prison and in the trials where sympathy is shown to others, because all humans deserve to be equal.  I noticed this theme a lot in Herb’s case. I didn’t know all of the men were friends, and even if this wasn’t the case in the book, the connection they had in the movie was really inspiring.
I liked the movie’s characters the most, out of all the different aspects.  I loved the way that they all came together in this movie, and I especially liked the connection that the three essential death row inmates had.  Michael B.Jordan and Jamie Foxx were amazing in portraying the emotions of their characters, which I was introduced to from the book. If I could change something about the movie, I would have added more about child incarceration. Although it wasn’t the purpose of the movie, I found the chapters of the book discussing child incarceration to be really interesting, and I would have loved to see the important message behind come forward in the movie.
I would definitely recommend this movie to others (I have already enlisted my dad to go see it) because I think that, while being enjoyable and exciting to watch, it enforces a lot of really strong and important messages.  I would not recommend reading the book first. I think that I would have enjoyed the movie even more if I had been surprised by everything that happened.
